What's up dog?
Koko works at Archipelago a Brisbane based design studio and deserves this award not just for her remarkable impact within our workplace, but for the lasting influence she extends beyond the Archipelago walls. With almost half of her life dedicated as our beloved office dog, Koko has spent the last five years as Archipelago’s “Team Support Officer”. Her positive impact reach extends beyond our studio, as each workday begins with a stroller ride (her 12 year old legs appreciating the short commute) where she’s greeted with smiles, waves and even requests for photos. Strangers often strike up conversations, enquiring about our destination and admiring our dog-friendly workplace.
Koko’s work routine unfolds with a dive roll on the carpet, followed by an enthusiastic studio exploration, welcoming co-workers as they trickle in. As the Team Support Officer, she confidently crashes project meetings with clients and consultants, offering an abundance of warmth with her snorts, tail wags, headbutts and undeniable boss demeanour, frequently evoking the sentiment, “That just made my day”.
Not content with being a cheerful presence, Koko wears her role with pride, facilitating much-needed breaks for her colleagues through her favourite game, “Balloon” ,where a balloon is chased around the studio until she pops it. All staff are encouraged to get some extra steps in and improve their own mobility by retrieving the balloon from under desks to keep the game alive. Koko’s positive influence really shines during her post-lunch siestas. Just as her colleagues are approaching their 3pm slump, she fills the studio with a meditative backdrop of gentle snores and sighs that create a serene ambiance that fosters a sense of relaxation throughout the studio.
In recognition of Koko’s multifaceted influence, I believe she deserves this award as a testament to her role as a valued team member, source of joy and a unique thread that weaves together the fabric of Archipelago’s vibrant culture.
