Meet people2people: Chamira Gamage

Chamira Gamage • November 2, 2015

You've met other members of the people2people team in our Meet people2people series, and today we're chatting with consultant Chamira Gamage. Chamira graduated from the University of New South Wales in 2013 with a degree in International Law & International Relations, following his completion of his Bachelor of Arts (Sociology) in 2011. After gaining valuable work experience as a youth worker in country NSW and academia with the University of New England, Chamira resettled in Sydney and joined people2people's Western Sydney accounting and finance recruitment division.

What are the main qualities you look for in a resume?

Generally, consistent structure and formatting is the initial thing that will catch my eye. It shows organisation skills and a sense of presentation, as it is a representation of yourself. What is comes down to, however, is detail in duties and key achievements throughout each role.

What do you think is the primary key to career success?

Having the necessary foundations are always important to being successful in any career. Being committed, resilient and flexible are going to ensure you can weather storms. Though as clichéd as it is, enjoying what you do and having passion for your work is the key aspect.

What do you think makes people2people different?

I've worked in various industries and can see that company culture and attitude are the best attributes of people2people. There is a stereotype within the recruitment industry of a cut-throat, sink or swim mentality, but within people2people, the support and genuine care to have integrity in all aspects of recruitment are stands-outs to me.

What's the most interesting role you've recruited?

A role I've been working on recently, a PA position for an MD of two companies. One being in healthcare and the other somewhat of a polar opposite as a manager of a psychedelic, heavy metal rock band.

What’s your favourite spot in Sydney?

I'd have to say Blues Point or Milson's Point at the moment. They're close to home and a good spot to relax and soak up some sun.
