Introducing Top Blokes Foundation

Introducing Top Blokes Foundation
Ben: Welcome, Rachel. Thank you very much for joining us. I'm very excited. I know a bit about your organisation, but I'm very keen to spread the word so that everyone else is aware. So thank you for joining us.

Rachel: Thank you for having me. I'm happy to be here.

Ben: I thought we'd start by maybe if you could just give us a quick intro about Top Blokes Foundation and the great work they do.

Rachel: Sure. So Top Blokes Foundation works with young males across New South Wales and Queensland. We run a mentoring and mental health program over three to six months. We approach mental health from a holistic perspective, addressing various topics like anger management, masculinity, drugs and alcohol, respectful relationships, and more, all of which impact young men's mental health.

Ben: And what do you think are some of the biggest challenges that young men are facing with mental health?

Rachel: I think one of the biggest challenges is that while awareness of mental health issues is increasing, young men still struggle to seek help. Suicide rates among young men are alarmingly high, indicating that they may not be seeking support when they need it. Building their ability to be vulnerable and seek help is crucial.

Ben: Well, I do remember when I first heard about the organisation, and you mentioned the number one killer statistic, and I was absolutely shocked by that. So I think being able to talk about this is a big part of it and spreading the word. But also, what would you say is the best way to support an organisation like Top Blokes Foundation that's doing such great work?

Rachel: There are many ways to support us, but one significant event is our annual fundraising challenge called Lift the Load. It's held in October, which is Mental Health Month. Participants walk 50 kilometers wearing a 10-kilo weight vest throughout the month to raise awareness about the daily burden of mental health and to raise funds for our programs. Signing up for Lift the Load is a fantastic way to support us.

Ben: Great. Fantastic. That sounds like a pretty tough challenge, but what a fantastic cause. So if you want to go over to the Top Blokes website, details are shared below. Please, please do get involved. I can't speak highly enough of this organisation. Everything I've heard about it, it is doing some amazing work. So please do visit the website. And thank you very much, Rachel.

Rachel: Thanks, Ben.
